This artwork taken from a vintage book page is a masterpiece of historical propaganda. Although not an image I expect to be popular with the Turks, it remains interesting for its historical value. The imagery shows the union of Emperor and Church in the fight to preserve Christian authority of Europe. The two pillars and the two-headed bird symbolize a society made up of Church AND State. And I’m assuming the tree stumps are to show that the Holy Roman Emperor will cut down his enemies like a logger in a forest.
